Savage

Savage used to be a commercial game, and has recently gone freeware. Ever wanted to play a strategy game where you control real human players rather then stupid AI bots who have no free will? Or maybe you wanted to be one of the units in a huge battle being given orders by some greater force?

This game is both a RTS and an FPS. Or as the game's website puts it: an RTSS (real time strategy shooter). The strategy portion of the game looks like a very normal RTS, you command your units, and tell them where to build things, where to go or what to mine and there is fog of war. the only difference is that the units have free will, they are players and might not obey your orders straight away, altough most of the time they know what they are doing and will obey.

If you are a unit, then you must choose to equip yourself and pick a unit. equiping yourself depends on the research done by the commander (strategy guy) and youre personal gold. You earn gold by killing npcs and enemy players. Also you gain experience when you do anything that helps your team, wether its repairing/building a structure or mining a material or killing an enemy as well as obeying an order. gaining enough experience will upgrade your armour, weapon, stamina and make your labour more effective. There are 2 teams in this game, the human legion and the beast horde (FOR THE HORDE!!). The humans use technology to fight, using guns and the likes, while the horde use magic.

Overall this game is amazing, the graphics are slightly dated but very good nontheless, the sound effects are perfect and the gameplay is just perfectly awesome.

Note: the first time you run the game it will ask you for a cd key, the free cd key is 00000000000000000000 (20 zeros) and also there are a couple of add ons that you should get to play online, links are available on the sites download page

Great communication between players (units and commander)

Cons:

Games might take a while to start before someone decides to be commander
