Hold Off Red

Hold Off Red is a simple and intuitive arcade game created by Helix Games Inc. The player, roleplaying a heart, attempts to fend off various-colored creatures called Woes by shooting at them.

Gameplay

You lie in the center of a completely white arena - with no features. Enemies (Woes) will appear from the sides of the screen, heading towards you. Every single one you kill gives you points - however, if one reaches your heart, you will lose health. If a Woe takes all your health, you lose (of course). You have a small chance to rest before faster and stronger Woes come at you in larger and larger numbers. You can also mount combos (very useful for earning lots of points).

Over 40 stats are recorded, including totals, enemies, hits, and combos. There are also some useless but still funny stats such as "Insomnia", which is how much time you've played the game between 1AM and 5AM.

You also have a game rank, which is a summary of everything you do in the game. No-one has the highest rank (10), but 4-5 people have claimed to have reached Rank 9.

Sounds:

The sounds are good, but nothing special - they match the game. No complaints.

Music:

As a professional musician, I usually give this factor lots of attention. There isn't a great variety of tracks, but the music itself is good and matches the game. I've seen it happen way too often when I played a game, got into the action and the music was so annoying that I couldn't concentrate. This is not one of these times: The music works perfectly with the game.
