Fight Zone

Deathmatch FPS Games are not uncommon nowadays, and there is a few good freeware ones too. Altough from my own experience the majority of them are on a quake engine, wether 1, 2 or 3, and its rather rare to find one on its own engine.

Well Fight Zone is one such Deathmatch game, and it shows! The gameplay is very different to the usual Quake style deathmatches in a few ways. Firstly, you wont find guns and armor on the floor, you have so many points you must distribute to your weapons power, ammo count and your armour.

Every player has a jetpack and all the guns. The armor consists of 3 parts; head, body and legs. Destroying certain armour parts effects the player; if you destroy the head armor his scanner, which shows enemy names, weapons and health, will be disabled, if you destroy his body armour he can’t jetpack and leg armour makes him jump lower and run slower. Also armor takes a while to destroy, unlike most deathmatch games you dont kill someone with a single rocket, you have to blast off his armor first. Obviously after you blast off a single piece of armour you can aim at the exposed part to kill him, exposing the head makes for a harder target but quicker kill.

The weapons include: a lightsaber, machinegun/sniper rifle, rocket/grenade launcher and a laser gun. As well as a few mines. The game features bots and multiplayer but no master server because it was actually a project for the school digipen, however I have set up a hamachi network especially for this game. Network name: "Fight Zone Lobby" and pass: "digipen" (Hamachi is a program to create virtual networks between players, so with this you can set up a lan game for others in the network to join, no matter how far they are, just google it if you dont have it)

Pros:

"Different" deathmatch gameplay
Good bots
Nice graphics and sound
Localized damage (head shot, body shot and leg shot do different damage)

Cons:

No master server for online play
Only 3 levels
